We were in Patelnagar, Birgunj, today!
Our staff members and graduates from the School of Recovery and Reformation came together to perform a self-written, rehearsed, and performed street play to raise awareness about drugs and crime. The drama highlighted the alarming rate at which youths are falling into drug abuse due to peer pressure, and the community members received the message well. Street plays are a powerful technique for raising awareness.
In the closing remarks, our speakers discussed the serious problem of rising drug abuse among the youths of Madhesh. According to the Home Ministry’s statistics, 14.8 percent of drug users in Madhesh Province are under the age of 20. The increasing number of young drug users is distressing and has raised significant concerns in recent years, underscoring the urgent need to address substance abuse in the region.
Through our “School of Recovery and Reformation,” we offer transformative and rehabilitative services to combat drug abuse and crime among youth in the rapidly growing communities of eastern and central Terai-Madhesh, including cross-border districts. The program is run by a network of former drug users and ex-convicts, with over 60 percent of the funding generated locally.
A special shout out to our self-motivated students from the School of Recovery. We were also joined by the Parwanipur Police Station Team. Sano Paila has always believed in collaborating with immediate stakeholders in its various initiatives.
