Our Impact: Transforming Lives Across Nepal

For over 18 years, Sano Paila has been a driving force for positive change, delivering tangible results across Nepal’s diverse landscapes. Since our inception in 2006, we have achieved significant results in various sectors. Our journey exemplifies the transformative power of community-driven action, and today, Sano Paila stands as a testament to the impact of collective effort.
Our impact is not achieved in isolation. We actively cultivate strong partnerships with a diverse network of stakeholders, including local, national, and international development organizations, government agencies, youth clubs, women and LGBTQ+ groups, civil society organizations, political parties, and independent networks. These collaborations amplify our reach and ensure that our programs are aligned with the needs and aspirations of the communities we serve.
Key Achievements:
Community Development: Substance Abuse Treatment, Crime Prevention, Conflict Mitigation, and Youth Development.
- Empowering Individuals through Substance Abuse Treatment: Our pioneering drug rehabilitation and behavior change program, the School of Recovery and Restoration, has successfully rehabilitated over 3,462 individuals, providing a crucial pathway to recovery and reintegration.
- Developing Leaders through Youth Empowerment: We have trained and mobilized over 1,000 youth volunteers through 204 workshops, equipping them with the skills and opportunities to become catalysts for change in their communities. Sano Paila has established partnerships with over 40 youth clubs and organizations.
- Nepal Peacebuilding Initiative: From 2010 to 2017, in partnership with the Joan B. Kroc Institute for Peace and Justice, University of San Diego, Sano Paila addressed social distrust and conflict. It organized 30 roundtables, educational programs, and skills trainings, reaching over 2,600 individuals in conflict mitigation and problem-solving.
Protection and Empowerment: Child Protection, Anti-trafficking, and Women’s Empowerment.
- Protecting Children: Through our Sunischit Bhawsiya - Securing Better Future program, we have rescued and reintegrated over 422 children from exploitative situations, ensuring their safety, well-being, and access to a brighter future. Our commitment extends beyond rescue, focusing on long-term care, reintegration, and empowerment at our children's homes, "Sano Ghar." Sano Paila has directly engaged and informed over 3,200 children about their rights.
- Advancing Women's Empowerment: We have empowered dozens of socially vulnerable and economically deprived women from historically marginalized communities, including survivors of violence and human trafficking, and women with disabilities. We provide skills-based training in jewelry making, basket weaving, and other crafts, along with micro-finance support and employment opportunities through social ventures like "Kaasya". These initiatives help women overcome past challenges and build a foundation for a brighter future.
- Anti-trafficking and Violence against women: We have rescued children and young girls from human traffickers and supported government efforts to prosecute and imprison these criminals. Sano Paila has also assisted numerous women survivors of violence, advocating for and providing legal support in cases of rape, sexual assault, trafficking, and dowry-related issues.
Education and Health: Literacy Programs and Health Promotion.
- Literacy for Nepal: Under this banner, Sano Paila has provided over 500 scholarships to students from socially excluded and marginalized communities, ensuring access to quality education. We have constructed a high school, established two libraries, and consistently supported community schools with essential stationery and supplies. Additionally, we have successfully implemented several literacy programs, including "La Ngonpo"—a virtual exchange and interaction program between students in Nepal and Europe—benefiting hundreds of students directly and promoting cross-cultural understanding.
- Promoting Health: We have provided direct health services to over 100,000 beneficiaries, improving access to vital healthcare and promoting healthy lifestyles across diverse communities.
Livelihood & Environment: Food Security, Social Enterprise Development and Environmental Sustainability.
- Food Security: Over the years, Sano Paila has provided free rations to over 100,000 individuals from marginalized communities. It also runs Bharpet Bhojanalaya, a community canteen offering nutritious meals at 50 rupees (less than 50 cents) to urban poor individuals, particularly migrant/wage workers, addressing food security and enabling financial savings on food costs.
- Social Enterprises: Sano Paila has successfully established innovative social enterprises like Kaasya and Circus Kathmandu, which support trafficking and violence survivors and vulnerable women.
- Environmental Sustainability: Sano Paila has been a strong advocate for environmental sustainability, working with government and civil society to develop sustainable urban mobility plans, as well as organize various activities and programs.
